Clothing worn by competitive athletes has changed dramatically over time. Students compare and contrast uniforms worn today with those of the past, and design their own “Uniform of the Future”.

Lesson Two - Every Problem Has A Solution featuring Norma Foster and Karate

Norma Foster fought against society’s idea that women could not participate equally in sports. Students will learn how she battled discrimination to succeed in the world of karate.

Lesson Three - Worlds Away featuring the 1930 UBC World Champion Basketball Team and basketball

In 1930, the UBC Women’s Basketball Team traveled to Prague where they won the International Women’s Games. Students will view a scrapbook of the trip and write their own correspondence as an athlete far from home. Students will discover how modes of travel and communication have changed.

Lesson Four - I thought I Could featuring Ann Meraw and swimming

Students will be inspired by long-distance swimmer Ann Meraw, who set seven world records, four of which still stand.
